Statement of INTENT for supporting Inclusion at Sandylands

Sandylands is an inclusive school that welcomes all children and values them as individuals, treating them equally and with respect. Inclusion at Sandylands is central to our curriculum and we believe that all children can thrive in an environment that meets the needs of the individual. We recognise that all children are entitled to high quality provision that enables them to achieve their potential, through timely intervention to remove barriers to learning so that expectations and levels of attainment are raised for all pupils, including those with a special educational need or disability. We have a highly qualified team who work collaboratively to provide a range of support for children’s educational, social and emotional needs. These include a specialist teacher to develop speech and language in EYFS and KS1, a 1:1 Maths tutor for KS2 and our Inclusion Team who support a wide range of social, emotional and mental health needs.  We work with a highly qualified range of partners that enable the school to remove barriers to learning. These include an Educational Psychologist to work with children, families and staff; an additional Educational Psychologist who provides assessment work to support the development of children’s learning needs, an additional Educational Psychologist for therapeutic work; specialist teachers to meet the needs of children with hearing and visual impairment; as well as a range of outside agencies such as Paediatric Therapists to ensure children’s needs are met.
