Everyday we will share the learning on this page so you can see which Loom videos you need to watch and then have a go at the activities.

Don’t forget to send in any pictures, videos etc of your child’s learning to receptionhomework@sandylands.lancs.sch.uk.

We would love to see it!

Re-cap the terminology and the learning from the week. Using a variety of objects ask your child to show you which group has more or less. Ask them to estimate how many objects are in a group and check by counting the total. Ask them to compare groups and use the terms greater and fewer to describe the quantities. You may extend this activity by completing the worksheet attached.

Phonics – Lesson to watch

Friday

Daily Activity time- Activities on the class page (See below)

  • Communication and Language,  FRIDAY

Watch the video of head, shoulders, knees and toes by sticky kids.

Listen for the missing words in the song. Sing along and point out the missing words. Ask your child to sing with you on the second time. Can they fill in the missing words?

You could extend this activity by doing the action and singing at the same time. Can they do the correct actions and fill in the missing words?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn02FVLBY-0

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development FRIDAY

Look at the Loom Video of Ravi’s Roar (Monday’s Story). Stop at the part of the story where they are playing hide and seek. Discuss what has happened so far and how Ravi might be feeling. Why do you think he is feeling like that? Is it OK for him to feel that way? What should he do next? What do you think might happen? Continue reading the story to the part where Ravi becomes a tiger. Have you ever felt that angry/cross? Think about a time when you have got angry. Discuss what you should do if you get angry. Ravi’s Roar

Read the rest of the story and reference how Ravi’s behaviour as an angry tiger makes his friends and family feel. How did it make Ravi feel? What did he do at the end to make things better? Remember it’s OK to get angry, everybody does, it how we cope with it that makes a difference.

Activity 1 Monday

Read the story to page 6. Can you identify which the birds are beginning with p on the picture?

What else could be in the pet shop?

Can you make a Pet Shop poster? Draw the animals that could be in the shop and write their names.

Activity 2 Tuesday

Read the story to p 12.

What is in the brown box? Talk about the word assorted. Can you think of any little brown creatures that you might find in the pet shop? Have a look on kiddle (a search engine for children) and see which animals you can find. Can you make a list of them?

Activity 3 Wednesday

Read to the end of the story.

Can you use the character pictures to retell the story? What happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story? (See pictures below)

Story Pictures Wednesday

Activity 4 Thursday

– Look back through the story.  If you had 20p in the pet shop which animals would you buy?

How many can you buy with 20p? Can you write which animals you chose? Use the book to help you.

Use the labels (below) to write the names and prices of your animals.

Maths – Please log into the loom for each day and watch the video. Then you will be able to complete the activity. Resources needed are below.

Activity 1 Monday

Discuss what having ‘more’ means. Discuss what having ‘less’ means. Explain that we are going to investigate ‘more’ and ‘less’. Gather quantities (groups) of objects (clothes pegs, coins, marbles, Lego bricks, spoons etc). Separate them into two clear groups. One which has more and one which has less. Ask your child to tell you which one has more, which one has less. You can increase the difficulty of this task by making the quantities more equal. To extend this activity ask your child to draw you two groups of circles, squares, spiders etc. Ask them to explain which has more and which has less. Ensure correct terminology is used. Now have a go at the more and less activity sheet below

Activity 2 Tuesday

Talk about estimating. What does it mean? Explain that estimating means that making a ‘sensible guess’ about something. We estimate things all the time, cooking, lengths of time, cost, quantity etc. Can you estimate how many star jumps you can do in 10 seconds (remember to estimate first and then count the total amount to check). Were you close? Did you do more or less than you estimated? Repeat with other activities, clapping, hopping etc. Now have a go at completing the estimating sheet below.

Activity 3 Wednesday

Re-cap the learning from the week so far including terminology. Discuss that estimating is making a ‘sensible guess’. Explain that today we will be estimating amounts or quantities. Using objects that you can group(coins, pegs. etc), create groups with different quantities (up to 10 / 20).  Ask your child to estimate how many there are in the group and say the number or write it down. How will they know if they were correct? Ask them to count the objects to check. Repeat several examples.

Activity 4 Thursday

Assess prior understanding of the terms fewer and greater. Explain their definition and refer to Monday’s learning on less and more. Explain that we can use these terms to compare quantities (how much of something there is). Show some examples using household objects i.e. clothes pegs, spoons, socks, coins, sweets etc. Create two groups and ask your child which has fewer in it? Which group has the greater amount? Emphasises the correct use of mathematical language. Repeat several examples. You can extend the activity by drawing / painting some groups of animals from the story. Which one has the greatest quantity? Which one has the fewest?

Phonics- The daily videos are uploaded onto the class page.

  • Understanding of the World Activity MONDAY

Watch the story of Noah’s Ark.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGAcaFfWmiQ

It comes from a special book called a Bible. Can you remember the story of a special baby which came from this book?

Can you name the animals you can see in the story? Noah was such a kind person. Can you think of all the kind things you do at home or school?

  • Physical Development TUESDAY

Can you move like different pets? Think about some of these animals:

Rabbit

Dog

Snake

Parrot

How would you change your body to move like they do?

  • Understanding the World – Technology – WEDNESDAY

Using a computer or an ipad complete some of the tasks on the following Cbeebies game:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/games/my-pet-and-me-game

  • Expressive Arts and Design – THURSDAY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mrbhsusOGM

Have you heard this song before? Can you keep the beat to this song? Do you have any instruments at home you could use? You could make a shaker. All you need is a cup and some rice or pasta. Put the rice/pasta in the cup. How could you cover it so it doesn’t all fall out?

Activity 2- Could you make a home for a pet? Use your junk modelling to make a bed or a hutch.

  • Communication and Language,  FRIDAY
