5th January 2021
Dear Parent/Carers
Following the Government announcement last night I am writing to update you.
If you require a place for your child from Monday, 11th January due to being a key worker or your child has additional needs could you please book them a place using ParentApp stating which days you require and include an emergency contact number. The form will need to be completed each week with your requirements for the following week. Please can you complete the form by Thursday in order that we can ensure that all our children are safeguarded and we have the correct information to generate registers. You may require a part time place which is fine.
I know that a further lockdown and the uncertainty it may bring can be very stressful. If we at Sandylands can do anything to support you, our team are here to help in any way we can. Sometimes talking through things can really help.
Home learning is now on our website and we are currently writing guidance for parents, which should help you at home. If you require a hard copy of the home learning, please complete the form on ParentApp if you have not already rung to request a copy.
The mental health of your child is also very important to us and we have our family support team in school waiting to provide advice. We can also seek support from outside agencies for you.
There has been a very high demand for laptops and Government allocation designated for free school meals children does not meet the need. We currently need to source an additional 85. I am awaiting more inforamtion from the Department of Education, but I am also looking at funding sources. Following discussion with our Chair of Governors school has, in certain circumstances, agreed to fund data packages to enable children to access on-line home learning.
During the announcement last night, it was said that food would be provided for those entitled to free school meals. I do not know at this stage when this will happen. For this week, I have arranged for the Foodbank to deliver a parcel for those who have requested one. If your circumstances have changed, or you think you may be entitled then please ring the Area Education office on 01524 581207 who can let you know if you qualify (please have your National Insurance Number available when you ring). It will only take one phone call. There is no form to fill in. It is always worth checking.
I am currently updating the risk assessment and children will be socially distanced at 2 metres. Numbers in classes will be limited. Bubbles will remain in place to avoid cross contamination. Please can you ensure that your child/children do not mix with others on the school yard as we know the infection now spreads very quickly. You will be contacted via ParentApp if bubbles need to isolate.
Take care everyone and no matter what happens we will remain here in the centre of our community supporting wherever we can.
