The Industrial Revolution was a major event in world history and had a profound effect on societies around the world. During this Topic, we explored the benefits of machines and how industrial cities and towns grew due to the migration of farmers and their families who were looking for work in the newly developed factories and mines.  We also explored the negatives that came with this change, such as the living conditions in the cities and towns, which were characterised by overcrowding, poor sanitation, pollution and spread of diseases. We finished the unit by looking at the exploitation of children during this period. Children explored real testimonies about children’s working conditions that were given to parliament in 1832.
