Pirates!

Year 5 had to use maps/atlases to fill in the areas that pirates operated. Children used lines of longitude and latitude to plot these coordinates. Once complete, children had to race across the seven seas hoping to be the first vessel to find the buried treasure! Those who failed had to use pirate raid tactics used by the notorious Blackbeard to steal the loot: find the target; hide the sloop using physical features; fly the flag of a friendly sip; shadow your prey; sail towards the galleon’s stern to avoid the cannons; warning shots and scare tactics; disable the crew; disable their sails and rigging etc.
