During this Topic, we explored issues to do with democracy, rights and freedoms and looked back at a society very different to our own. Pupils explored why Ancient Greece had such a long and dramatic legacy whilst working as history detectives to piece together the fragments from the past. Through their investigations Year 5 found out about the city states of Athens and Sparta, warfare and seamanship, everyday life, beliefs, culture, mythology and key individuals from this period. This also included a trip to the Harris Museum, an A Grade 1 Listed building where children were able to handle ancient coins and pottery and build a model of the Parthenon!
