What is Children’s University?
The Children’s University is a national organisation that provides 5 to 14 year olds with exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours. We celebrate achievement and reward participation through our certificates.
Raising children’s aspirations is important to us and we aim to develop the understanding that learning can be the satellite navigation to better places in life!
At the heart of its work is the ambition to raise aspirations, boost achievement and foster a love of learning, so that young people can make the most of their abilities and interests.
All Sandylands pupils, (from Reception to Y6), can take part in Children’s University. They receive credits for attending any school clubs and residential visits. Credits from school activities are recorded on a database and sent to C.U. termly.
Children can also attend Learning Destinations in their own time and take part in holiday activities. Credits from these should be recorded in their passport. These credits are also checked each term by Mrs Oddie and added to the database.
Passports can be purchased from school at a cost of £3.00

Children’s University at Sandylands
After school clubs provide our children with opportunities to take part in new experiences and activities and to learn new skills outside normal school hours.
We offer a range of activities covering: Art Club, Computing, Dance and sports. Our clubs run for children from Year 1 to Year 6.
Our clubs change termly to ensure all children have the opportunity to attend a club.
We also have outside agencies offering Multi-Sports (Team Theme) and Jujitsu (Activ8). The cost of these clubs vary each term depending on the number of sessions. Look out for the next letter coming home with your child or ask at the school office for more details.

Mrs Oddie is busy collecting all credits each term and sending them off to CU so they can keep track on the children who will be graduating this year. The graduation ceremony takes place at Lancaster University around May. More details will arrive on here and a letter will come home to graduates nearer the time.
Congratulations! Our first Graduates…
What a fantastic day we had yesterday at Lancaster University. It was our first year of taking part in Children’s University and we had a whopping 54 children graduate! It was so lovey to see so many parents come down to support us too – thank you! We were so very proud of each and every one of them – well done you all worked really hard to collect your hours. Keep filling in those passports and hopefully we will have even more graduates next year.
