We all got involved once again in this worthy cause – it’s our third year running now! Check out the Year group pages for more details of what we all got up to.

Year 3’s 24 Hours in Mayan Civilisation

Year 3 had a fantastic time today exploring the history of the Mayan people. We took part in drama workshops, learnt how to count in Mayan and solve number problems using Mayan numbers, looked at real Mayan artefacts and met a Mayan warrior. Some of us even had the chance to dress up in traditional Mayan clothes and we all tried raw Mayan chocolate! What a brilliant day!!

International day of Happiness!

What a great day to celebrate international day of Happiness – it was our Sandylands World book day today too! Classes spent time discussion what happiness means to them!

Sandylands Presents Strictly Come Eurovision

Year 3 had More Music workshops with Ben this Monday and the children had a brilliant time. They’ve written some fabulous songs which Ben is now remixing for us! Keep an eye on the website in a week or so and they’ll suddenly appear!! Our next stage is to add our dance routines to them and make our Eurovision videos. There will be a premiere for parents once it’s all done – watch this space!!

World Values Day – The look of love…!

Year 2 were looking at the value of love as part of World Values day this week. We talked about what love meant to us and how we know somebody loves us. We made our own ‘post- it- note’ heart with all our ideas.

24 Hours In America

To celebrate American Independence Day, Reception held a special 24 Hours in America. The children learned about the American flag, the different buildings, took part in some American sports and of course loved all things Disney.

Inspirational women week

Wow! What a brilliant week we have had looking at inspirational women across the global. Each year group looked at different women who have impacted on society at a local, national and global level. Year One focussed on Queen Elizabeth II and had their very own Garden party, whilst in other year groups, the Women’s Institute came in to bake with the children.

Lest we forget – Remembrance day 2015

This week across school, we have been remembering all those that served and are serving in the armed forces. Classes have been taking part in ’24hrs in… Remembrance and poppies’ where they have had the opportunity to learn facts and remember not only our local veterans, but also soldiers across the country and around the world. We were fortunate to receive a visit from a member of the Royal British Legion on Wednesday 11th November who shared memories with our school parliament.

We created a poppy waterfall at the front of school to which every child attached a message of remembrance as well as the local community writing messages to put into our memorial poppy garden.

Send my friend to school 2015

The ‘Send my friend to School’ campaign is going strong! We are finishing off the petition which we hope to take down to parliament with our local MP David Morris.

Mr Morris visited our school earlier this year to work alongside the children – putting a song together about children’s rights around the world.
